The City of Elko has been labeled “Nevada’s Top Micropolis.” The primary trade area of Elko is comprised of approximately 84,000 residents, consisting of ± 44,000 residents within 50 mile radius and a remaining 40,000 beyond. The average household income in the City of Elko’s direct trade area (50-miles) is approximately $66,318. Mining is northeastern Nevada’s major industry. Currently there are approximately 11,000 mining related jobs in Elko’s primary trade area, where employees earning average incomes of $75,000/yr. There is an expected 700-800 additional mining and mining related jobs to be created between 2009 and 2012. The demographic profile for the City of Elko area consists of upper-middle-class families who live in spacious homes with numerous children and a strong sense of community. Families with disposable incomes drive the purchasing power and demand for the latest technology, soft goods, and sporting goods and equipment. Highly unique to this area - the Elko customer will purchase virtually every piece of sporting equipment on the market. Opportunity for new retail and service industries exists in Elko and the surrounding communities, as in most cases …“supply does not meet demand” for the residents in this growing region.
