Gibbons appoints Myers to economy board

ELKO — Gov. Jim Gibbons announced Wednesday he has appointed Elko County Commissioner Charlie Myers to the Nevada Commission on Economic Development.
“It’s great for Elko and for the county. It will give us representation on the commission and give us an idea of what is happening in the rest of the state. It’s exciting,” Myers said Wednesday.
He said the county will learn more about what is available in workforce development, tax abatements offered to companies to entice them to come to Nevada and economic development grants with a representative on the commission.
“It gives us a venue to see what we can do to attract industry to the county,” Myers said.
He also serves on the Elko County Economic Diversification Authority board, Elko Convention and Visitors Authority board and as chairman of the Elko County Regional Transportation Commission.
Myers is in his second term as a county commissioner and earlier spent eight years on the Elko City Council. He is also chairman of the Elko County Republican Party.
He is manager of Sierra Office Solutions in Elko and earlier worked for Job Opportunities in Nevada in Elko and as a district manager for a soft drink distributor following 25 years in the U.S. Army.
“Charlie Myers has the perfect balance of public and private experience to contribute to the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, “ Gibbons said in the announcement.
“I am certain he will bring valuable input to the commission as our state navigates through these troubled economic times and moves toward future prosperity,” the governor said.
