NxLeveL Training offered to rural Nevada small business owners By Judy Emerson - Elko Small Business Development Center/Elko Daily Free Press
ELKO — More than 50 percent of all small businesses close their doors within a year of opening, but here in Nevada we’re all about increasing our odds.
The Nevada Small Business Development Center is doing just that with its latest course offering — NxLeveL Training for Entrepreneurs. Starting June 8, this class will be available online and offered exclusively to rural Nevada residents.
NxLeveL is a 13-week certification course designed to give small business owners the intensive learning environment they need to help their businesses survive. The program is an internationally renowned training curriculum offered in 48 states and nine countries.
The NSBDC brought NxLeveL to the Elko area four years ago. This summer, the online version will be facilitated by Marie Gibson, a certified NxleveL online instructor and business owner.
“We wanted to be able to offer NxLeveL conveniently to all the rural communities in our area,” said Judy Emerson of the SBDC.
“We in the rural areas of Nevada are used to online education, where we can access the class at our own convenience, whether that's during regular business hours, on weekends or at midnight, so this is perfect for us,” she said.
Students will have access to resources, the online materials and opportunities to chat with other rural Nevada business owners.
The class is limited to 20 participants, so early registration is encouraged. Register online at www.nsbdc.org/education
/nxlevel/ and click NxLeveL online where full course details and program information can be accessed.
The cost to participate in the course is ordinarily $480 per person. However, the NSBDC has received subsidized funding from the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, which allows this class to be offered for a reduced fee of $95.
For those who fall into the category of low to moderate income, that fee is returned in full once the course is complete with a written business plan.
To see if you qualify as low to moderate income, you call Judy Emerson at the Elko Small Business Development Center office at 753-2245 or Kathy Carrico, the NSBDC State Training Director in Reno, at 775-784-6879.
