Developer plans to build new Hilton

ELKO - As the state’s economy slows, a Nevada developer plans to take advantage of the relative stability of Elko’s market and open an extended-stay hotel, the first project in what could be developed into a larger commercial area on Ruby Vista Drive near Wingers.

“We saw some opportunities that were missed in Elko right now,” said Sushil Patel, who plans to open Home2 Suites by Hilton. He said construction of the 80- to 88-room hotel could begin within the next year and open in early 2011.

Patel has already acquired the land for the three-story hotel, which would be one of the first built under the Home2 Suites brand launched in January.

In addition to this building, Patel said another hotel, restaurants or other business would likely be built at the site.

The hotel will have a more “modern, contemporary feel” than many other extended-stay hotels, Patel said. It will include a fitness center, spa and pool.

On average, most Home2 Suites will be comprised of 80 percent studios and the remainder one-bedroom suites. Each will also have communal space with a table, individual work zones, a pantry, a laundry site and activity room. Rooms would cost about $100 per night.

Another developer this week announced a Marriott extended-stay hotel was planned for the area.
