ELKO - Elko County agreed to sell 20 acres of Railport property Wednesday to Texas-based Manti Resources for a manufacturing facility to process and ship barite as a finished or crude product.

Construction is expected to begin within 90 days of finalized purchase.

Manti Resources is the parent company of Spirit Minerals, which has an office in Wells and mines barite at a site north of the community.

At the railport location, barite will be processed before it is loaded into rail cars and trucks. It is expected to be a 24-hour operation, but shipments will go out only during the day.

There are no loud noises or fumes during processing, Spirit Minerals Vice President Terral Young told Elko County Commissioners. The facility is expected to employ 40 to 50 people.
