Elko City Planning Commission: Orchard Cove subdivision plan approved
ELKO - Plans for a residential development took another step forward Tuesday after the Elko City Planning Commission approved the final plat for Orchard Cove subdivision.
The development will divide 6.946 acres into 32 lots. The property is north and south of Orchard Cove Drive between Pinion Road and Winchester Drive.
Mike Shanks of Shanks Engineering said the lots will be for single-family homes.
He said the contractor will develop the lots, but he wasn't sure who would build the homes. Shanks is the engineer for the project.
RH Construction Services filed the final plat on behalf of Granite Holdings LLC.
Robert Howard of RH Construction was not available for comment.
Shanks said the developer will start “turning dirt” as soon as the plans are approved by the city council.
No one spoke against the project, but Dale White asked if it would create additional traffic on Metzler Drive. He said there are posts blocking traffic and he wanted to know if the posts would be removed to allow traffic from the new development onto Metzler.
Elko Public Works Director Dennis Strickland said there were no plans to change how Metzler Drive is accessed.
The final plat was forwarded to the Elko City Council for approval.
In other business, the commission approved the 2008 work program.
Lance Whitney, a member of the commission since 2004, resigned from the planning commission. In his letter of resignation, Whitney did not cite a reason. He was not available for comment.
