ECEDA bases business expo on retention survey

ELKO — After reviewing the results of the Elko County Economic Diversification Authority’s retail and service survey, ECEDA’s Business Retention & Expansion Team determined several of the respondents were interested in learning more about, or had concerns with, four distinct topics.

The areas that were the most important to many of the businesses included workforce, financing their business, marketing their business or expanding their business. Eighty percent of those that responded wanted more information on one or more of these four topics.

The ECEDA team, which consists of business-related organizations and local businesspeople, decided that a one-time, all-day session would be the best way to meet with a large number of businesses and provide them with the information they requested, plus make the information available to all those interested.

With the help of the Elko Area and Wells chambers of commerce, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Small Business Development Center, ECEDA is planning a Business-to-Business Expo that is to be held at the Great Basin College in the theatre building and solarium from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 29.

Area businesspeople are invited to attend ECEDA’s Business-to-Business Expo where they will be able to stroll through the Expo and talk to business support vendors or attend sessions related to their interests.

Tables will be offered to businesses and organizations that do business primarily with other businesses. The objective of the expo portion of the business-to-business function is to network. The expo opens at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m.

Five sessions will be available to attendees. The first session, “What is ECEDA’s Business Retention & Expansion Program All About?,” is planned to start at 9 a.m. and finish at 9:45 a.m.

The second session addresses “Finding Qualified Employees and How to Keep Them.” In addition, the new Elko County Workforce Analysis will be unveiled. The session is from 10 a.m. to noon.

“Marketing to Local Customers” will be a special 45-minute bag lunch session that allows businesses to hear from local media reps and learn more about their market reach and various audience-segments, plus enjoy a quick lunch.

“Financing Options for Businesses” will be the topic at 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. A panel of several financing entities will address the programs they offer.

The final session starts at 2:15 p.m. and is “Expansion Success Stories”; focusing on the stories of four local businesses. Speakers will describe their expansion challenges and highlight their successes.

Co-sponsors of ECEDA’s Business-to-Business Expo include Great Basin College, the Elko Area Chamber of Commerce, Wells Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Development Center, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Elko Daily Free Press, Ruby Radio Corp., Holiday Broadcasting, Elko Broadcasting Co., and KENV Channel 10.
